Vector Transmission and Epidemiological Surveillance of Parasitic Diseases (VECPAR) USC

Head of Unit: Jérôme Depaquit

The ANSES VECPAR (Vector Transmission and Epidemiological Surveillance of Parasitic Diseases) contracted unit was created in 2008 with the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne. It conducts multidisciplinary research in parasitology.

Vector-borne diseases are a major concern for both human and animal health (malaria, dengue, chikungunya, leishmaniasis, bluetongue, Toscana virus, etc.) in a world where the environment is gradually changing.

The team seeks to carry out dynamic research on the systematics and eco-epidemiology of parasitic diseases, combining morphological and molecular approaches. There is a strong emphasis on fieldwork and a close link between research and teaching.

The team's research themes are:

  • morphological identification and molecular characterisation of known and emerging parasites and vectors;
  • study of inter- and intra-specific variations analysed as epidemiological and phylogenetic traits;
  • understanding the functioning of development cycles and transmission hotspots;
  • and participation in setting up surveillance programmes for the parasitic diseases studied.
