Assessment of the health risks related to the chemical parameters of water intended for human consumption

Working Group (WG)

The Working Group (WG) on "Assessment of the health risks related to the chemical parameters of water intended for human consumption" reports to the Expert Committee (CES) on “Water".

The WG's missions are to assess health risks related to situations where quality limits have been exceeded and regulatory quality standards have not been met for water intended for human consumption (WIHC), and to assess the health risks for unregulated chemical parameters in such water.
On the basis of health risk assessments, this group will be able to issue recommendations to risk management organisations in order to:

  • provide the health elements necessary for establishing health thresholds in WIHC (waivers, restrictions on use, etc.) for the chemical contaminants that may be present in the WIHC;
  • assist in defining the recommendations for risk management related to local contamination of water resources.

The Working Group will be responsible for processing formal requests, most of which are issued by the Ministry of Health, seeking opinions on:

  • health risk assessments related to situations where quality limits have been exceeded and regulatory quality standards have not been met for water intended for human consumption;
  • health risk assessments related to the presence of unregulated physico-chemical contaminants in WIHC.
